Qeqertarsuaq City Walk
Guided city walk in Qeqertarsuaq, focusing in resent as well as older history.
Qeqertarsuaq has approx. 850 inhabitants and is the only town on Disko Island. In Danish the towns name is “Godhavn”, which refers to the well protected natural harbor. In Diskofiord is the only village situated called Kangerluk. Qeqertarsuaq is a well functioning and peaceful town with school, nursinghome, hospital and a small museum. Primary occupation is hunting and fishing, especially fishing for snowcrabs and lumpfish is important. There are numerous voluntary associations in town, and the new artificial grass soccer field with stranded icebergs in the background is always busy with playing children.

Walk to Kuannit — the place with numerous angelica plants and incredible basalt formations
Kuannit is placed east of Qeqertarsuaq. The walk passes the heliport, Arctic Station, Red River and the opening of “Blæsedalen”. On the trail you have the 900 meter high “Skarve mountain” on the one side and a spectacular view of Diskobay on the other side. At Kuannit, incredible basalt formations are present, formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Kuannit area is very fertile for Greenlandic standards, and mosses, lichens, flowers and especially angelica plants are present there. In the summertime, whales are often spotted in the sea just below Kuannit.

Mountainbikes are ideal to explore Qeqertarsuaq and surroundings. By bike you will quickly get a good overview of the town. Main roads are paved, but there are numerous gravel roads and dirt tracks too. If you like to test your technic and endurance, you should choose Kuannit as your destination!
There are numerous bike sizes available, all well maintained with multiple gears and handbreakes. If you should experience a puncture or other technical failure with your bike, you will get another one free of charge right away.

Description of the trail to Lyngmarksbræen
The downhill hike can be hard if you are not trained. There are a lot of loose pebbles, which requires extra attention. If you have problems with your back, knees or hips you should consider the hike an extra time. The hike is on your own responsibility, but a guide will help you and make sure that everyone is safe and secure both on the way up and down.
Important Notice: Hiking boots are mandatory for this hike. We also recommend to bring your trekking poles.
