Qeqertarsuaq City Walk
Guided city walk in Qeqertarsuaq, focusing in resent as well as older history.
Qeqertarsuaq has approx. 850 inhabitants and is the only town on Disko Island. In Danish the towns name is “Godhavn”, which refers to the well protected natural harbor. In Diskofiord is the only village situated called Kangerluk. Qeqertarsuaq is a well functioning and peaceful town with school, nursinghome, hospital and a small museum. Primary occupation is hunting and fishing, especially fishing for snowcrabs and lumpfish is important. There are numerous voluntary associations in town, and the new artificial grass soccer field with stranded icebergs in the background is always busy with playing children.

Walk to Kuannit — the place with numerous angelica plants and incredible basalt formations
Kuannit is placed east of Qeqertarsuaq. The walk passes the heliport, Arctic Station, Red River and the opening of “Blæsedalen”. On the trail you have the 900 meter high “Skarve mountain” on the one side and a spectacular view of Diskobay on the other side. At Kuannit, incredible basalt formations are present, formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Kuannit area is very fertile for Greenlandic standards, and mosses, lichens, flowers and especially angelica plants are present there. In the summertime, whales are often spotted in the sea just below Kuannit.

Mountainbikes are ideal to explore Qeqertarsuaq and surroundings. By bike you will quickly get a good overview of the town. Main roads are paved, but there are numerous gravel roads and dirt tracks too. If you like to test your technic and endurance, you should choose Kuannit as your destination!
There are numerous bike sizes available, all well maintained with multiple gears and handbreakes. If you should experience a puncture or other technical failure with your bike, you will get another one free of charge right away.

Disko Explorer – sailing trip with possible whale watching experience
The boat trip takes place in a Targa Express – a very comfort and modern passenger boat carrying up to 12 passengers. The boat is equipped with comfortable pilot seats for everyone, and lots of space inside as well as outside. The excursion starts in the harbor of Qeqertarsuaq and follows the coastline northeastwards with the amazing basalt mountains on our left. We pass the mouths of two valleys – “Blæsedalen” and “Brededalen” respectively as well as waterfalls and spectacular lava formations formed by historic volcanic activities. Different sea birds live in these waters and together with huge icebergs they form quite an arctic setting for this trip. In the summertime numerous humpback whales normally feed in these waters and if possible, priorities for whale watching will be made. Sometimes these gigantic whales even jump out of the water!

Dog sled trip at Lyngmark Glacier - daytrip
Guided daytrip – including dog sled trip
Experience the impressing Greenlandic sled dog pulling your sledge on top of The Lyngmark Glacier under the midnight Sun! A beautiful – and for some people challenging day hike from sea level to approx. 800 meters altitude and back again. At the top the participants are rewarded by splendid views and dog sledge ride. The trip starts 09.00 AM with a thorough briefing. Then we walk through Qeqertarsuaq towards “Lyngmarksbugten”, where the trail leads up to Lyngmarksbræen.
The guide will lead the walk and make sure that everybody feels comfortable and reach the glacier safely. Upon arrival to the glacier, the dog sledge trips will take place in the afternoon, and every trip lasts approx. 1 hour. Late afternoon the guided walk back to Qeqertarsuaq will begin.

Dog sled trip at Lyngmark Glacier - including overnight stay in lodge at Lyngmark Glacier

The guide will lead the walk and make sure that everybody feels comfortable and reach the glacier safely.
Upon arrival at the lodge, check in will take place and dinner served in the evening. After breakfast next days morning, it is time for the dogsledge trip with the duration of one hour. Late morning the guided walk back to Qeqertarsuaq will begin.
Regarding content, this trip is quite similar to the guided daytrip – including dog sled trip. From the lodge at Lyngmarksbræen there is an absolutely outstanding view over Diskobay. With an overnight stay in this spectacular landscape you split the hikes up and down in 2 stages, which are appreciated by many.
